Fortunately, nobody was at the houses at the time, but on that day, we lost these 120-year-old dwellings forever. The main building was a former sericulture house, built during \u003cem\u003ethe\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003eRusso-Japanese War (1904-1905)\u003c\/em\u003e and connected to a warehouse built around the time of \u003cem\u003ethe Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895)\u003c\/em\u003e. These historically significant buildings were severely flooded and are scheduled to be demolished in November 2019.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cimg src=\"https:\/\/www.mieayamgrobakan.com\/s\/files\/1\/0548\/1269\/files\/IMG_2914_large.jpg?v=1569744866\" alt=\"Konke Nami-Usagi Project\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is difficult for our family to see these cherished buildings go. Not just because we grew up with them, but because they are a part of Japanese culture and history. We thought it suits perfectly as the name of this project as we are still in business. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eKote-e (鏝絵)\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/em\u003eis the art style of plastering pictures or words on the walls of traditional Japanese architecture. They often represent a story that invites fortune and the classical themes of the natural beauty of Japanese aesthetics. The design in the picture is called \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNami-Usagi (波兎)\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, one of the most well-known motifs used for Kote-e to wish prosperity for the family.
